Take unworking mods out of the loot table?

Drop rates are pretty brutal as it is, getting a skill mod tape or AA that is known not to work is even worse. Can we just take them out of the loot table or is that a super complex procedure?

I want to win the lottery every time I play too!!
Ok, kidding aside, we've covered loot drops at least a hundred times on here and they are working as intended. Only time there is an issue is if a high end mob (ancient krayts for example) spits out an Ithorian hat...
Why does everyone think the loot sucks here? I must be the luckiest person on the server or I simply realize this is a hardmode server with loot set the way it is to keep the economy in check.

It's not about winning the lottery... it's about getting something that actually works when you get a tape or attachment, or at the least something you can trade/sale and be useful.
Tapes and attachments for mods that are broken are essentially trash loot. If it doesn't work why is it in the game? To take up space?

If we would consider this it would be something along the lines of broken tapes are removed but ALL ca/aa drops are now such such more rare say for example 50% harder to get as drops.

I'd be totally cool with that myself, all that would mean is less inventory cleaning.ShadowWalker wrote:If we would consider this it would be something along the lines of broken tapes are removed but ALL ca/aa drops are now such such more rare say for example 50% harder to get as drops.
If you removed the worthless mods and reduced drop rate by 50% (if 50% of the mods or worthless), then you're getting the same number of useful mods anyway.

Hmmmm.....you pose an interesting proposition. I am curious is a looted AA, or CA still worthless when you can use it to cancel out a multi stat AA or CA?
Not only do you want to remove the "broken" tapes....you would like to rewrite the loot tables?
There may be some value in the "broken" tapes....you just need to find the buyer.

In the hypothetical event that broken tapes were removed, this would become a non-issue. If broken tapes don't drop, multi-stat tapes with one or more broken skills on them wouldn't be either.Treva wrote:There may be some value in the "broken" tapes....you just need to find the buyer.
On the other hand, if your argument is that broken tapes should stay in the loot table because they serve the sole function of being cancel tapes, I'd point out that they shouldn't exist below a certain value. A +2 Grenade Experimentation tape serves no purpose at all.

If the drop rate would simply be adjusted down to compensate, then it seems like dev work for no real overall benefit. I'd rather see development effort put into other areas.

I'm not asking for a higher drop rate on tapes, just make any tape that drops be on the fixed/working list. That includes anything that is intended to be fixed on this server. By having tapes in that don't work on such a large scale the useful tape drop is effectively very low as a side-effect.
I ALSO don't think the drop rate should be adjusted down if this happens, as it's still pretty low and everybody should have the chance to catch up to taped out players who have been on the server for months and months. You shouldn't have to search for a year just to compete because of drops. You'll still get tapes YOU CAN'T USE, like a CH Tape when you're a Fencer, and that's fine.
As far as tapes to cancel other tapes.... I think multi enhancement tapes are mostly junk or frustrating to begin with and should also be removed or changed. I'm not sure what the thinking was behind them at launch, as you rarely see two stats that work for any given build. Cancelling a stat seems more like a workaround in the game, than an efficient game mechanic. Yeah, it's cool that people know how to do this through experimentation, but that doesn't mean it should be in the game at all.
In my mind, if a tape drops that has two stats it should be in the same profession, ALWAYS, and thus be rare and more valuable.
For example:
Pistol Speed 10
Pistol Accuracy while moving 12
Or something like that. That way it makes you better at that profession by a factor of two. It's taking up two slots anyway so it's not OP. Why should the loot table be guessing your skill point build? That's insanity.
Again, these should be rare. But having Lighstaber Experimentation and Foraging on a single tape is pointless, and basically a bug if you ask me. To me it was something the devs put in but never had time to fix in live and had no idea how it would work in the end game.
Taping out a character IS the end game beyond maxing out your skill points, and it takes months to do properly. I think it deserves attention, it's also a significant part of the economic money sink that moves credits around to the population. Suggesting it's not worth fixing is silly in my mind. People sitting on millions of credits will spend them to buy tapes more than just about anything, as they are rarer than pearls and tissues at this point. Just look at that LLC Speed +25 tape that's up for sale. It's going for 7 million + last I checked.

I think the tape situation is pretty good right now.
I've been able to sell/trade enough good tapes that I don't need to buy full 2-handed (speed, accuracy, counterattack) and Pike (speed, accuracy, block) suits and I've only been here for a few weeks, and I can only play on evenings.
I'd classify myself as a sort of medium-core player and it's pretty easy to accumulate good stuff with a some directed effort.
Edit: Huan I just realized I bought 22 points of Block SEAs from you in the past few weeks!

Yeah And I spent a lot of time looking for those haha :p
But I'm glad to help you out.
I wouldn't say it's bad by any means, but I think it's important to address. For those block tapes/aa's I've gotten I've gotten a lot of trash too.
