Hi there MaximeM,

You will need the original legitimate discs, it is a part of every SWGEmu's licensing agreement that our players have them.

Keep an eye out, they come up on most major online marketplaces like eBay for around $30 AUD from time to time. Then there are the collector's editions that people like to charge through the roof for and the overpriced base editions which it sounds like you came across.

Took this from Takhomasak (he probably got it off the SWGEmu site), it gives a good idea of which copies will work:
In order to use any SWGEmu game server, you must legally own either Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, Star Wars Galaxies: Starter Kit, Star Wars Galaxies: Total Experience or Star Wars Galaxies: Complete Adventures Online.

There are multiple legal ways to acquire a legitimate copy of SWG, should you need one. Amazon.com, Ebay, etc. are examples of online stores that sell SWG. You only need "An Empire Divided" (the original boxed game from '03), however, any non-trial version including "The Total Experience", "Starter Kit", "Access Station Kit" and "The Complete Online Adventures" will work on SWGEmu servers.

Hello -- sorry if this is a commonly-asked question (which I suspect it is)....

What if the copy of the game is used/pre-owned and has been registered previously (either officially with SOE or possibly even on one of the post-official game servers)?

I see many used copies for sale on Ebay but didn't want to waste my $$$ if they won't work.

Thank you!

They'll work just fine, the various emulator servers don't check for previous uses of the discs, they just require that you have an original retail copy of the full base game.

Hi there sunshineunits,

Unfortunately we will require you to use your discs to install SWG, you can do this as you describe or by using an external USB disc drive to install them onto your computer. After you have it installed, just make a backup of the base game install to use in future for when you need to reinstall the game on another computer. We have to do it this way because we are still bound by copyright law and as such must not redistribute the game files. We don't want to risk angering the mouse or any other relevant parties after all.

I hope to see you in-game soon!
