Brief Biography:
Telara was a station rat- one of the orphaned / abandoned brats that grow up struggling to survive in the underbelly of the ancient starship waystations that dot the outer rim. The youngest exchange maintenance chores and errands for nutrient paste while the older kids that don't end up in trouble with the law barter their way into apprenticeship, join a hauler crew, or mix with recently-paid crewmembers in the cantina. Its a living, but often a short life.
Young station rats dream of being a starship captain someday. Few ever do.
Telara beat those odds.
Sorta.
Truth be told, it's not much of a ship.
And if you ask around, some don't consider her much of a captain.
Y'see, Telara was well on her way to fulfilling the calling of a cantina girl. A lack of education limited her chances in the repair yards despite her innate technical talent, her slight build and small stature made her a bad fit for the heavy-labor "recruit" farhaulers' crew slots, and even if anyone overlooked these limitations, few bothered to look past her beaming smile, laughing eyes, and feminine assets. Cantina girl.
She fought hard against this fate- more than a few ships' mates found that the wide-eyed lass that laughed at their stories and hung on their every word really WAS far more interested in the lessons she could learn from the details in their stories than other late night activities. Through a mix of luck, smart listening, stupid tenacity, and a sprinkling of extralegal activity, Telara ...borrowed... maintenance shuttle and brought back a derelect- the Silver Rasp. It was a wreck in every sense of the word, but it was hers under salvage law. She was able to sell off some of the better parts for cheaper downgrades and use the money to patch the hull, replace missing databanks with salvaged droid brains, weld the bulkhead, and get it flying.
Sometimes.
Usually it sits in docking bays while she struggles to find a fare that will pay for repairs, back-pay docking fees, and let her eat.
But she's a STARSHIP CAPTAIN, damn it.
(note: recently the Silver Rasp changed ownership back to its original pilot- although it will be spending a long time in drydock before Jagen Arroyo makes it spaceworthy. Telara's working on plans to take it back.
Personality:
Telara is gregarious to a fault. Open, light hearted, and expressive.
She sees the other hardened smugglers around her and tries to act the part of a seedy underworld captain:
- the cool, calm poker face that betrays nothing
- the aura of danger.
- the allure of mystery.
She fails miserably.
OOC Information:
Where can someone find your character for RP:
Telara's been hiding out in Daggers Down (Lok) as she tries to scrape together resources to re-take her ship.
Possible RP Hooks:
- Before Telara's former first mate / boyfriend / childhood-crush emptied their accounts and disappeared, he exploited her trust to get the "Silver Rasp" involved in all sorts of "get rich quick" schemes. Now she owes money to... well... everybody.
- I love collaborative storytelling. Pretend to have known Telara on station TS-41-- perhaps been part of Keep it not-too-racy, not-too-extreme and I'll play along with it.
- Telara kept the original name of the ship "Silver Rasp" but many have taken to call it "Rusty Rasp." They're not wrong, but there are few things that get a captain's ire faster than disparaging her ship.
- NewThe original captain of the "Silver Rasp" Jagen Arroyo recently took back the rasp by force. Telara hasn't accepted this "minor setback" yet and is seeking muscle for a re-acquisition... once she can pay for that muscle.
- NewTelara's ex-boyfriend (Ellor Orono) recently re-emerged, now flying "special cargo" for Jabba. The reunion with Telara nearly ended with her added to that cargo. Ellor now sports a cyber arm after the outcome.
Note:
I hate mixing lore, but a friend once summarized Telara as "Firefly's Kaylee desperately pretending to be Mal." If anything, Kaylee was more grounded.
