This is Nycrett Sandrunner from Starsider, and I've also got my buddy Tronin/Tzhurn from Starsider. (Both of us played Pre-CU, CU, and some NGE) We're also reaching out to a few old friends to try and get a small group of roleplayers together. With any luck there'll be a half dozen of us soon.
Our style of roleplay was pretty freeform - we might have some sort of plot devices planned, but we just let it go where it takes us. We never got very far into pre-planned storylines.
We're also from the days of RP fight = duel, but I do understand that's fallen out of fashion in favor of rolling dice and emoting. It did prevent godmoding, and it made large scale combat possible. (IMO, it made fighting a bit more rare - the typical RP'er doesn't like losing just as much as the regular player, and it's riskier when you know you have a good shot of losing badly) So people would step a bit more lightly if they weren't sure they could take somebody on.
Guild wars were also a useful RP tool. If you wanted your character to be an expert combatant, you'd have to actually practice to become good.
But I digress - definitely more interested in finding people who enjoy RP rather than people who like my particular style of handling RP combat.
So, basically, I'm just putting some feelers out. Tronin and I are looking for a long term RP home. We've bounced around to other games and nothing has quite filled the void of SWG, and we'd love to recapture even a little of that magic.
Some information about us and our style of RP...
- 1. We were fairly entrenched in the criminal side (with a good amount of effort put into a legitimate front), but also in the 'gray areas' (ie. Mercenaries, Bounty Hunters) and some above board stuff. Not much Imperial/Rebel RP, but it did come into play sometimes.
2. Dueling for RP combat resolution, but this is certainly not a necessity since it's become so unpopular.
3. Open, free-form RP. Plot devices, sure, but we didn't usually follow a preset storyline. We would use alts to spice things up (a bounty hunter, etc) and would usually not let others in on the secret, so it'd feel a lot more organic. Lots of fun had this way.
4. Loosely organized - not interested in one city with one set of rules that everybody must follow. The insular, rules heavy cities that we ran across tended to be so insular it was difficult to get involved, and easy to break many little rules.
5. We *do* like action. And conflict. Not over the top 24/7 explosions and murder, but it is a space opera/fantasy and it's fun to play that sometimes. Sitting around talking is great too, and an essential part of RP, but it's not the only thing we want to do.
6. Primary rule we lived by - "OOC consent for any actions on another character". Without OOC consent, it wouldn't happen. However, we were also aware that it's not fair to just say "Nope can't do that" OOC'ly and avoid consequences for IC actions, so generally people who did that wound up not being included much in the future.
7. Nearly 24/7 in character. Not anything intentional, we just wound up being in character most of the time.
This is not an indictment or even observation of anything or anybody specific - I'm new to this server - but I've seen it happen countless other places
EST Timezone-ish. Evenings and weekends.
I'm Nycrett or Syke in game, Tronin is Tronin or Maxen.
