Aren't there coats one can wear over their armors? Like a duster or a vest or something? Maybe I'm off my rocker here but if a coat or vest is worn you can look unique and others can see what armor you are wearing.

Actually PvP was prolly the most predominant part of SWG next to crafting. Especially in the pre-cu days.

I understand that, and there could obviously be some restrictions implemented like a rebel couldn't wear imp armor or non jedi wear jedi clothes etc. Again, it's no biggie, I just like the diversity so figured I'd throw it out there.

Honestly, this is a good idea... let's not be dull about it....you should know!! by now going into pvp without comp gear is just stupid(stun gear)... so with half a brain, one should come to terms that.. "oh maybe they have comp armor under that" better be ready for a fight.."....Please Devs add the A-tab it's not going to do any harm to gameplay.. heck it will add to it...
those that think otherwise...well as apart of the community... I understand your view..but for the big picture A-tab is a must! that is all, the Devs simply have to say yes or No...but we need to do a vote.. or a polling system... should the Devs add it or not.. can't we stop talking about it and just do this already? I also understand the Devs have their own lives, so do we...but lets put this to rest already and make up our mind on this topic..

I support this suggestion. I think having customization helps keep the player landscape fresh and doesn't change the balance of game mechanics. As it stands you will already see most players wearing composite and you already have a good idea of what their resists will be. I find it to be more engaging to not know what template/gear someone is wearing before you engage them in PvP. Just my two creds.

This is one of the only (probably actually the only) MMOs I would NOT want an appearance tab.
I have three different combat characters, all wearing Composite, all looking different. Different color schemes, different pieces of clothing to give them unique looks, etc.
With the prevalence of PvP and the strength level of the Galactic Civil War, I would want combatants to be showing their armor. If you want to wear your cute fleshwrap, take the risk of getting caught in PvP with it on or don't pick a side. There's a reason my crafters are currently neutral, I don't want them getting shot at while I'm carrying around goods. EQ2, EQ, WoW (transmog), those are all PvP-light, so I'm fine with appearance tabs there.

From an RP standpoint (which basically to me means that it feels like SW) I'd love an appearance tab for clothing/armor. It'd be great to have all the TK-427s running around in stormie armor but not gimped to do so. Drives me nuts seeing everyone in Comp armor which feels more like HALO imo. And seeing jedi robes everywhere...
Bigger fish to fry I'd think but maybe someday.

One of my favorite parts of SWG has always been the high level of character customization, from actual physical appearance to clothing combinations, etc. Probably unfairly, I judge every MMO by SWG's character customization standard. But, it seems almost a waste to have such customization when so many run around in near-identical armor.
When the NGE added in the appearance tab, I thought it was a great change...it allowed that strength of customization and uniqueness to show through. Icing on the cake was when backpacks could be turned invisible. After all, the yardstick we're going by is the movies. Our characters are the main characters of their own "movies." While it would be "in character" for some to wear their armor, the characters on film - Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie...even Padme, Anakin & Obi-Wan...didn't wear armor. Aside from that time a wonderful smell was discovered, they were in standard clothing.
I wouldn't expect an appearance tab to be a high priority, but I think it would be a strong addition to the game.

if factional PVP is the highest level of the game to participate in, why is factional armor restricted to being only useful for mid game content?

How many (named) Star Wars characters wore armor?
Boba Fett, Dengar, Vader--even Bossk wore a flight suit, not a Trando composite mini-suit.
Just sayin'....

So basically asking for an appearance tab? well yes it did get implented in the game later on... also it would render tailoring a more interesting class other than BE clothing.
Personally would see it fit for wearing mando armor 24x7 if ever get well enough into the game again other than a pop up here and there... even would make PvPing interesting as you never know what you could be up against, because Composite armor do have a seriously dull look, likewise RIS is like a Shogun meet Star Wars kind of thing... either way PvP did get better in the CU as well as later NGE as of approach to everything compared to the pre-CU which DID have many errors and bugs such as the KD/dizzy move and bad balance in professions, jedi included.... it is the hardest thing to ever even out in the pre-CU and would take a long time to get working proper... question is, is the EMU team going to develop pre-CU into a full game or keep it beta as it was in live.

I don't understand the issue here. If you are pvp'ing where armor. If you are not then go hog wild with all the individuality you can muster and where what ever the hell you want. Tailors have tons of functionality, they need fashion conscious players who don't smell like doritos cuz they never get out of their tin can suits. Hell even Vader took the mask off every now and again.

With appearance tab, players should go ahead and assume a player they are pvping against is prepared to do so... unless they aren't - fun surprise!
I do think the appearance tab is more star warsy and a lot more fun. As a tailor, I noticed a huge uptick in the time people took in crafting their appearance. While this still happens with armor now, there's a lot more room to be a character. Comp and RIS are the best, so everyone wears them. Later on, people wore costumes, modeled their favorite book and movie characters. Overall, I felt it had more depth to the play experience. Now, I do think the NGE went to extremes with crazy backpacks and do-dads from TCG, but giving players the opportunity to live and fight in the existing clothes, would be a benefit to everyone.

Sorry for the ressurection here.
I fully support this. I know, some people think it would ruin PvP... but, when everyone is wearing Composite anyways is it really that hard to guess what someone is wearing despite an appearance tab?
Here's the thing, people play MMO's because they want a sense of ownership in a game. To distinguish and establish themselves among a virtual community. Whether they are a PvPer, a Crafter, a PvEer or a RPer. When everyone looks the same you end up with people running around in underwear to be different.
The Appearance Tab provides a more Star Wars feel where a scrappy smuggler wearing no armor at all brings it to Storm troopers, and the original intent of SWG was to create a virtual representation of Star Wars. It allows players to establish themselves and to have ownership of their characters in providing them a distinct and unique look. It lets us set ourselves apart and truly feel like our character is not just an "Off the factory line cookiee cutter character".
I would hope this would be revisited for implementation, and I realize entirely that the dev's here have a lot on their plate with getting the system to work. But, this feature would be a monumental one for those who are wanting it and I think it would provide a boost to the economy as tailors and armorsmiths would soon see themselves flooded with requests for things they've never received before. Anything would become viable. Anyways, just my two cents. But, I think this is one feature that would provide a lot of joy for the players here.

Dear Santa,
What I want for Christmas...
appearance tab in SWG:Awakening....
I did plenty of PVP during the appearance tab era and I don't see honestly how it ruins it. I think everyone can understand if you are PVPing you are wearing your best, buffed to your best, and ready for action.
The appearance tab was one of the things that actually was done right. It gives players a wider base of individuality and helps with RP. I know it would only increase gameplay 'happiness' on my part, because I want my gals wearing something other than composite.

How? Everyone is wearing 80% Composite. Every single player, regardless of what they would be wearing, would have 80% Composite on. Mystery solved, PvP fixed.Lyris wrote:This would really mess up pvp.
