Hello,

I have been playing other old school mmos on private servers extensively for the last few years. I've gotten a little burnt out recently as I keep on playing the same games on fresh servers etc.

I played SWG a little when I was a teen with friends; but moved on after a month or so as the next 'exciting' game caught our eyes.. you know how kids can be. I remember really loving it and wanting to stay, but ultimately went with my friends.

So I'm going to give here a try for a week or so, and then commit more long term if I'm enjoying it.

My question is: I am basically fresh to SWG and want the fresh experience and will pick whatever skills seem interesting to me but I was wondering are there any major things I should avoid? Things that don't work/are really buggy etc?

Welcome! Glad you found the server. It is really the most supportive group of folks out there. Just note that most of the NPC cities, save Mos Eisley, are pretty just used as transit. The action is at player cities around the galaxy. If you have any questions or need help getting settled in, The Journeymen <TJM> are always willing to assist. Look forward to seeing you in game.

All of the professions are working, except the pilot ones since JTL is not implemented. You should pick a combat class that goes with your playstyle. Ranged or melee. Then try it out. The beauty of this game, is that you are not locked in. You can be like, Meh rifleman. Swords!! and have at it. Anyway, like I said above, anyone in the Journeymen are always willing to assist.

Come check us out in Bedrock (Entertainment district) and Mos Crumpit (research center), Tatooine. We have all the basic profession trainers, buffs, vendors, etc... AND the most beautiful location on Tatooine!

If your ever on corellia why not pop to new destiny it is 1km south of coronet star port. It is an entertainment district so 3 hour entertainer buffs, home to server famous airy bubbles who entertains in the bespin cantina. Also other rare buildings to see are wookie tree house and yt1300(millennium falcon style) house. There are plenty of well decorated shops,a massive mall and a lot of tent shops. The city prides itself on offering everything under one city. 24/7 entertainment and doctor buffs available.

If your interested in joining a guild I always advice to play the server first meet people and try out player cities before making a decision see what's a good fit for you.

Welcome! If you loved the game back on live, then on this server it hasnt changed much! A bit harder at the high levels, as to you question, yes you can be a Combat Medic/Carbineers, or pistols or rifles. Or go Melee with TK or fencer, you can mix support/combat easily. Doctor is exactly the same.

Follow what you enjoy, like pets? Go Creature Handler and a combat prof you enjoy. Enjoy healing? Then Dr or CM is there to match up as well. Like setting things on fire? Commando is there too!

Welcome to Awakening! We have a great set of people on our server.. shout out if in Neutral if you need any help!!! Please know I have been given newbie items by Awakening members to hand out to help you get started! There is nothing to really avoid.. play what you enjoy!

There are a number of good towns and guilds. Personally I would start with what planet you like best and go from there. If you plan on being a crafter you want a crafting Research town, preferably one that has ties to a town that has plenty of merchants to sell your wares. If mainly for adventuring go with a Entertainment district for 3 hour buffs.. just make sure there's a 24/7 entertainer and a doc set up there, or a Improved job market for more cash.

I hold Serenity Naboo (Entertainment district). I can tell you we always are open to new players and happy to help you along. No matter where you decide, if you need help feel free to reach out and ask!

Welcome to Awakening!! On this server, most of the NPC cities are kinda empty. The player base tends to hang out where the buffers are. A couple people have already posted a little info about their cities. They have pretty much 24/7 buffers, doc and ent, and that's where you are going to find the people. Things are a little harder here on this server, but we like it that way. You won't find people logging in on a timer with their super OP weapons to kill something and and outdamaging you to grab the shiny loot you spent an hour fighting down to get. We have additional measures to prevent that besides things being a bit tougher to kill. The sever does go down for a reset at 6:00 am Eastern time. If you are still having a problem with connecting let us know, and we'll see about getting it sorted. The community here is very helpful.

You can pretty much always find some of us in our home bases of Tuskens Bane, Tatooine (research center) and now New Destiny, Corellia (ent district). We are always happy to help players both returning and brand new. Both cities feature 24/7 buffing services, solo groups, as well as a plethora of shops with just about everything you need to get you going.

Players here mostly hang out in player cities. Major player city hubs include(but are not limited to):

Naboo - Serenity, Con Diarmid, Avalon Prime
Corellia - New Destiny, Mon Cala

I was trying to begin without any help other than advice but.. damn the galaxy is a tough place. Some people mailed me credits without me asking and I had 2 people really show me the ropes!

Ending my session now, but I made good progress lvling unarmed and pistols, I'm really not sure where my toon will go but I'm happy to be able to do some missions and generally be more set up to learn the game; maybe I'll continue like this and become a smuggler or learn completely different skills and scrap the others completely.

In regards to House, Droid and Vehicle crafters is there room for more.. in the sense that if I was to make one and reach high lvls am I just making one for myself or will I be able to do/obtain things that I couldn't otherwise just buy for credits? (and then be able to sell them to others?) .. I'm not entirely sure how that all works.

I'm a pretty new player as well, and people have been very generous with gear, buffs, etc. I'm of the philosophy of paying it forward, so I'll be helping people out after I get more established. Makes the game more fun, in my opinion.
