Wanted to start the discussion about potentially seeing the return of the PVE bases to the game. I went looking around for forums for the debate to remove these in the first place and only came up with a few statements that BigEd doesn't like them because they're easy to farm? While I understand this merit, I would like to point out that it's just as easy to farm an SF base or even a static spawn. If your truly concerned about folks abusing the system perhaps a increase in spawn timers might be warranted.
I'm not looking go on a rant or anything. I have true interested in having these be returned as an active source of PVP and PVE. As a start to this discussion I'd like to list some of the pros and cons to having them reintroduced to the game.
Pros
Entry level PVP
NPC patrols around bases for City immersion
TEFs for players attacking PVE bases (more pvp)
More dynamic GCW
Cons
Potential farming abuse
Would like to know what you all think? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Would be nice to have back, as for farming faction points... well that is just how it is, one still need to dedicate the time doing and even if it is considered abuse IT would still grant some diversity for other stuff to be done and so on and so forth as well as having a wee bit more content to do, also makes it easier to go combatant or SF for having a faction alligned base around ones player city, also they are easier to clear off the map than the SF variant... and if people put up scanners it would also promote more PvP around bases that is PvE based, it didn't hurt anyone to have it in the pre-cu so I see no reason to why they should not be here in newage pre-cu.
Mostly because PvP will never be the full time only thing to do anyway, the pre-cu game is not too well designed around pvp as for one thing that is and mostly is event or mini event based anyway, buff system get alot in the way in a figure of speech for starters, the other thing is time since majority of people is 30+ have kids/jobs & and other real life content to pay attention to as well.

What was the main difference of PvE and PvP bases? I know that the PvE base is vulnerable 24/7 but what else?

They have much larger faction spawns, up to 4 large group spawns that roam around the bases. They have less of an impact on overall planetary GCW status than SF bases. Vulnerable 24/7, which promotes more impromptu pvp. Both SF and PVE bases must be taken down by SF players. PVE bases can be equipped with covert scanners. PVE base are more affordable, roughly half there SF counterpart. At the end of it all they're basically permanently vulnerable SF bases with larger NPC spawns for half the price.

I am not a fan of combatant faction farming at all. This type of base would allow for much easier and faster combatant faction grinding. The patrol and outside guards are easy to farm as it is, even with a faction scanner, making them 4x larger wouldn't help.
But, it could add a spark to pvp, if the attackers are sf or get scanned.
I think its a nice thought and you make some good points. I just see this as a way to grind already easy faction even faster.

In that scenario, what is wrong with that exactly? More faction means more people to spend faction, which means more bases even up all over, which leads to people trying to blow up bases, which leads to people trying to defend them.VyperWoo wrote:I think its a nice thought and you make some good points. Completely aside from the PVP aspect, it's literally no different that farming the weapons depot for hours on end? It's a war after all, people and NPCs are going to die all the time. That really sounds terrible, but that's how war is, it's bloody.
My main point behind this is that at the end of the day, they're content generators. It's not a surprise to anyone that PVP is lacking. Anything we can do to encourage folks to take part is something I'm interested in discussing.
Also on a completely selfish note, I want stormtroopers patrolling around my city!

Not so. The pre-cu game, from June 2003 - February 2005, was a great pvp game. Spontaneous battles arose all the time when one faction group attacked an NPC of the other faction. The global TEF got everyone into the action very quickly. Huge battles were fought on a regular basis between different factions in this way.QuorTek wrote:... the pre-cu game is not too well designed around pvp as for one thing that is and mostly is event or mini event based anyway...
Unfortunately, the publish being used now on all EMUs is publish 14.1 which was released in late March, 2005. This was one month after the global TEF was removed from the game allegedly so that some people could participate in the Galactic Civil War without ever being attacked by an opposing player. This effectively killed PVP since one had to pre-declare their role as PVP players by visiting a faction recruiter. So during this period, PVP had to be pre-arranged.
The problem with the PVE faction bases is that the owning group has no way to defend it from opposing players. Should someone wish to remove one's own PVE faction base, the owner can only sit there and watch. The attacking players need not be special forces to attack; just combatants.

I really hope to see something like this in the game. Very few people are overt, (I haven't seen one yet) with the new TEF system I think this would be a great addition that would promote spontaneous PvP.
