Having trouble finding the right pet strong and tough enough to get started with. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for a BE pet, I have some on my vendor in Mon Cala, but BE pets take a week to grow. You'd want something lvl 11 for Nov CH.
If you want to get started a little bit sooner, find something like an Eopie baby or a Nuna baby to tame or a similiar lowbie critter. Get it some pet food (Sweesonberry rolls are the best), or some doc buffs if you know an at-the-keyboard doc. Train it up, and make it kill other low-lvl critters around. As you lvl xxx4 CH, you can control and tame tougher/higher lvl critters for the rest of CH. The pet only has to hit a target once to get exp, so if you have a combat skill, let the pet start the fight and you finish it.

Cupas are among the best pets to to level with as they have a ranged attack. I keep some full grown for in my inventory if anyone wants one.
