Hi all,
I've recently returned to the game after a long absence and I'm just trying to get my bearings. Is Jump to Lightspeed enabled on Awakening? I see the professions for pilots and shipbuilders, but I can't seem to find any trainers for piloting skills. Do I need to install the Jump to Lightspeed expansion on my client?
Thanks for the help.

JTL is not available Krum, its still in development. JTL is still just a waiting game for the SWGEmu team to get enough people together who are interested in developing it and capable of doing so.

Question: So the SWGEmu team had no hand in developing JTL for SWG ******?Moonbeam wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2020 4:27 pm JTL is not available Krum, its still in development. The only reason SWG ****** has JTL or NGE at all is because they utilise stolen server code from when the game was actually run by SOE. A former employee leaked a version of the full NGE code quite some years ago now. While it is often misrepresented as an emulator like SWGEmu, it is in fact based on a version of the server code written by the original SWG development team at SOE, some point before they shut the official servers down. Then adapted from that point, as is the case with all other fully functional and feature present NGE servers at this point in time.fricray wrote: Tue Aug 04, 2020 9:28 pmQuestion: So the SWGEmu team had no hand in developing JTL for SWG ******?Moonbeam wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2020 4:27 pm JTL is not available Krum, its still in development. The reason Pre-CU cannot utilise that, for one it is illegal and for two the architecture of that system is very different under the hood than Core3 (the Pre-CU server emulation code).
I wouldn't advise playing there, because it is sitting on a knives edge legally. They don't have any level of legal standing for their project. We have the advantage of a verbal agreement with SOE at the time SWGEmu was incepted, roughly stating; don't use our code (which we don't, all code is written from scratch by SWGEmu or Awakening developers/contributors), don't distribute pirated versions of our client and don't make money off the project and we'll let you be. So that pretty much covers us from a SOE/Daybreak side. As for the Star Wars IP side, Disney could probably take the whole of the SWG server scene down at any point with a cease and desist (I don't fully understand the legalities), our saving grace is we are very niche now (we don't really detract from their profits), we don't make any money ourselves and again we don't distribute a client for all to play, we require users to play with the original retail discs or Steam download. So they really have no urge to touch us at this point in time.
TL;DR: No, SWGEmu staff did not and neither did the SWG ****** staff, SOE developers wrote the code and SWG ****** used a stolen leak of that code. In my opinion, don't play there.

Star Wars Galaxies is delisted from the Steam store, only those who had it when it was listed can still access it in their library.

Hello all,
I too am a returning preCU player and having seen your responses to the OP, I'm wondering if there's been any progress towards the development of JTLS for core3 since the date this was posted, in July?
May I pry into the details as to why there has been limited development on JTLS, and is there anything the player base could do to encourage development?
For instance, if the issue is the cost of time, what would be the drawbacks to creating a Kickstarter to amass donations for the development team to work on JTLS?
Thanks in advance,
Cooligan

Honestly, JTL is barely even on the drawing board at the core of swgemu's engine. I wouldn't count on seeing it on any Pre-CU server in the near future. While I don't speak for development I wouldn't count on seeing it on any Pre-CU server for years, if ever. It's not as much of a priority as the core game. Each year that goes by the player base as a whole on all servers gets more and more fatigued. That spells doom for JTL development prospects. The game is old and there's only about 10000 other games out there to play. If you want space combat there is a new Star Wars space shooter coming soon. I would head that way.

First of all, welcome back! To answer your question, no not much progress, we don't do the development of core 14.1 features or mechanics over here at Awakening. That's all up to the main SWGEmu team (we implement what they do on top of our changes), we just focus on QoL, bug fixes and other custom changes with the development time we have available.
As Cynar said, JTL is barely on the drawing board for implementation by the SWGEmu team, they're focussing on the ground game first. That's not to say that there is no progress. I know of one developer that is actively working on it in amongst other projects. Don't expect to see any tangible progress from a playable point of view for realistically at least 5 years yet, with the current rate of progress.
If you or anyone you know has an interest in helping to develop for JTL, get in touch with LordKator over at SWGEmu. He is looking for willing people who possess programming skills to join a special interest group for it. The reality is, that ultimately it needs people who are willing to sacrifice their free time to develop an old niche game for free, to see a meaningful amount of progress on it any time soon. That requires a great deal of love and dedication to SWG for someone to do that. Volunteering time to develop is the best thing players can do, in addition to generating more interest for the game. More interest means more potential developers to help SWGEmu reach their end goal.
Money isn't the issue, in fact money flowing to a party via a Kickstarter or donations to develop could generate unwanted attention from Disney or other parties that have a stake in SWG or the Star Wars IP. This is because it could potentially be seen as a profit being generated for someone from this. Which isn't allowed.
I hope this sheds some light, anymore questions feel free to ask.
