I played on Starsider during LIVE, and one of the best RP events was the Nomad Market. Once a month, a small group of roleplayers would find a nice, flat, buildable site on a different planet and send out the coordinates via the forums. Roleplaying traders and entertainers would converge on this area, set up Merchant tents, and basically create a gypsy market. For one evening - usually about six to eight hours, depending on how long vendors wanted to stay up - roleplayers could come and stroll around the market, get their fortunes told, get IDs, buy weapons, armor, clothes, loot, spice, and specially-named crafted items to be used as house deco.

The Nomad Market was a great way to network, plan new events, create or advance roleplay stories, and just find out who was out there and wanted to RP. (And on Starsider, it was a great way to get goodies for rational prices and not the absurdly inflated economy rates).

So what does everyone think? Is there interest in planning a Nomad Market style event?

As an added note, I know in pre-cu there are some important features missing that will make this event harder. I'd like to address them.

1.) Merchant tents not available to non-merchants: in NGE, anyone could plant a Merchant tent. Here in pre-cu, only people with a certain level of Merchant skill can do it. As a merchant of that caliber, I am willing to plant extra tents and rent them out to non-merchants who want to tell fortunes, sell loot, or perform some other non-crafting service.

2.) Merchant tents can't be packed pre-decorated: Obviously, our deco can't be as involved as it would be were it possible to pack a fully-decorated structure into a datapad. But a very basic set-up can be done in under 5 minutes with a couple of chairs and a painting or two. Again, I'm willing to volunteer to assist with decorating tents.

3.) No storyteller props: Without storyteller props and costumes we aren't able to set up temporary stages, torch-lined paths, or other visual interest items. For this, I would try to recruit or hire one or two scouts to drop deluxe camps to serve as hubs for the event.

While I could care less about roleplaying in general, I really do enjoy stopping by and seeing player-run spectacles. It would be a boon to the server.

To this day, I'd pay good credits to see player-run acting troupes perform plays like Hamlet (all of them would need feign death) with a Star Wars thematic re-write.

This does sound fun, though. I know there are a lot of people who like to RP and harbor fond memories of RPing on Live. My advice is to do it; bring it back!

Even if it starts out really small at first, as word goes around, it should get larger and larger with each new announcement. The hardest part is always organizing.

Well, the poll has another week to run, but so far EVERYONE is in favor of it in one way or another.

Who's willing to help set it up/rent out tents/be a vendor?

I can do the vendoring as a Tailor/Merchant, or recruit a couple of Scouts/Rangers needing to work on their wilderness survival exp. Remember that tents count as a building and so you cant drop tents too close to it.

This sounds like soo much fun! There are many good things that can come from something like this. May I suggest that it is 2 nights in a row for ~6 hours each? Like a real market would be open a second day while word got around.

I'm still training up my toons (I'm restricting myself to 3), but I can help organize or in any other capacity needed. Just let me know, I'd love for this to happen!

Hi all! Well, the poll has closed (obviously), and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE hates this idea. Which is AWESOME.

This is my first week of a heavy college semester, so I'm still sorting out how much free time I have, but I would like to schedule the first Nomad Market for Columbus Day weekend in October, if folks are going to be around.

If you want to participate in any of the below capacities, please send an in-game message to Vox:

- Seller (any profession, if you're not a merchant we'll get you a tent)
- Live entertainment
- Camp administrator (scout or ranger)

And don't think that only crafters can be vendors! If you have a combat character, come sell cool loot! Sell a service! Run a recruiting tent for your mercenary company/guild/outfit/crime syndicate! Tell fortunes!

If you don't want to provide a good or service at the festival, just keep eyes on the upcoming events for the where and when!

I would be happy to help with renting tents, placing camps and sell something. I'm thinking Jao would sell tamed pets. Maybe get a BE in on it.

Not sure if this ever happened but I'd definitely by interested. Yes the market was not just for vendors in fact some of the best roleplay were the non vendor tents like SIlk and Steel. Get your piercings and tatoos. Gambling tents.....fortune telling and even a kissing booth once...lol. Deco would be the pain since there is no pack up, which means it would involve pre set up and not random places. but could still be done montly or so. Give folks time to set up
