Fairly simple Idea.
Smuggler mission terminal.

It works like a delivery mission. You go to the mission terminal - select a mission and then an NPC spawns holding the contraband. (an item placed in your inventory).

Once you pick up the contraband it remains in your inventory and acts as a TEF to Bounty Hunters.
You hold onto this item until the drop-off NPC spawns (The time is determined by the difficulty lvl of the mission).
The drop-off NPC spawns at another location (again, the location is determined by the difficulty of the mission).

During this time you are placed on the bounty terminals. The difficulty of the mission you picked up will determine the payout on the bounty + how many missions you completed successfully prior to the current mission. (Much like a Jedi evading bounty hunters and becoming higher payout).

Player bounty hunters will hunt you for a reward, and NPCs when applicable will attempt to confiscate your contraband.
NPCs will perform searches on the player (something I believe is already in the game?) and if the contraband is found it will initiate a TEF to the opposing faction.

If a player of the opposing faction kills you while carrying the contraband he will be able to seize the contraband for a reward. (Less than the payout on the bounty, but still something).

So to sum up how this works:

Smuggler goes to mission terminal picks mission - this spawns an NPC holding "contraband."
Smuggler picks up contraband - gets placed on bounty terminals.
Smuggler waits a set amount of time for the other NPC to spawn - (Bounty hunters are able to find and attack him). - NPCs can "Search" and initiate a TEF to opposing faction.
Drop-off NPC spawns - smuggler drops-off contraband and receives reward. - Removed from bounty terminals.

I hope this will be considered, I think it could add a lot to the game.
It would be a fun way to earn money instead of just killing lairs, both for smugglers and for bounty hunters.

Not bad! Smuggler content is good content.

I also would LOVE to see smugglers be able to slice a data terminal of some kind (BH Mission term maybe? or better yet the term in a med center) which allows them to act as a spynet operative giving the bio sigs to hunters so they are able to launch their droids.

This would be a GREAT idea!

Adding content for BH and also giving some flavor missions for Smugglers so they can... actually smuggle stuff, instead of being just for higher mission payouts, spices and slices.

Not bad, but I think you should get "smuggler visibility". That way you get on the terminals and once it hits a certain percentage. Maybe even some thought goes into it affecting npc's of the opposite faction. Tidy that one up a little and I'll take it to the devs.

I mentioned smuggler vis yesterday in responce to Celts 'make jedi easier to hunt' thread (it did sound a tad like that, Celt mind). However, maybe even more dangerous for smugglers is allowing them to slice BH terms to reduce rewards for jedi or take them off completely. This woukd of couse give a roll to putting the smuggler on the terms instead (tracking the smuggler's slicing signiture maybe).

It does give content to smugglers, and allows BH another quarry.

As I said yesterday, no need to keep ramping up jedi vis, just make more folks capable of getting onto the terminals.

I think if that happened, everyone who unlocks jedi would grind a smuggler first.

Otherwise, i'm all for putting smugglers (anyone) on the boards alongside jedi. Player bounties were one of the main reasons I stayed and played the NGE after taking that first year off the game. I also think player bounties would bring in a lot of people to the server because I know i'm not alone with the above statement.

I also suggested that any prof that gets x amount of PVP kills could end up on the boards too. No xp loss though, just an inconvenience if anything. But it would make sense.

Good ideas... maybe we can look at some of this once we get our first Jedi Master running around :)

My idea was essentially smuggler visibility.

They gained visibility whenever they take a smuggler mission, plus the "contraband" item immediately places them on the terminal.

Although it could be cool that slicing anything gives them visibility. Slicing terminals especially.

Spice creation/use could give visibility too.

the nge pizza delivery missions are pretty much just are you are describing in the op.

smugglers transport goods to places the goods are not permitted
be it Spice or resources that are not permitted to be on a certain planet or just simple ways to not have to pay customs fees

smugglers get hunted by BH's when they fail to do their job, han was not being hunted by greedo because he was a smuggler, it was because he failed his mission and cost his boss a lot of money.

for smugglers the game is not necessarily about combat, its about the enviorment of the game having risks
if the game were to actually scan for contraband and actually have a real lasting penalty for having such contraband then a smuggler would need to assist others into getting that contraband to its destination.

be it sliced weapons, spice, or even just resources from one planet that were not permitted on another planet

if a player want to carry crated of crafted spice on planet there should be risk, as stated on the examine screen of every sliced weapon, there should be risk. and i am suggesting a tariff for offworld resources be imposed on all planets

its a tough pill to swallow as a player that spends more time logged as a crafter than as a combat profession but i feel that the game would be better all around if there was a tariff for alien resources, spice illegal weapons animal resources surveyed goods, a player could pay a fine to take stuff on planet or hire a smuggler to get it through, with just a simple be in a group near the master smuggler to get through or pay a steep fine based on quantity. or a crafter could just stay in their house and hire a smuggler to deliver for them. even if its a player created owner only can open lock on a container with a password shared by seller and buyer. ( with the possibility of smuggler slice to open if the tool cost and destruction risk were high enough )

for most traders this would probably just make them roll a smuggler/surveyor but ill never complain about a SWG with too many smugglers

id even suggest that a master merchant could also avoi the tariffs

also for the BH boards

han was not being hunted by Boba and Bossk and IG88 etc because he was a smuggler, its because he was a notorious member of the rebel alliance

people that stand out in war and make a difference should be targets

I actually really like the idea of Faction Visibility.

Higher the rank, higher the risk. Spend too much time slaughtering NPCs, gain visibility to the opposite faction. Scale it based on what is being killed, rank held and PC vs NPC skills. Either make them become BH targets, or open it up to where each faction can go to their terminals and pull up missions for PCs of the opposing faction. Or both. More content for all involved in the GCW.

I did. The quote is from the last part of your post which reads like a segue.

I was asking in relation to canon, not gameplay mechanics.
