First, thanks to Ed and the staff for making events. I hope they keep coming and I'll suggest some of my own, but I also wanted to zero in on what a PVP event is all about, and how I feel the current ones are straying from the goal of solid, natural PVP. PVP to me is the best thing in an MMO and I want to keep it that way.

I do not like NPC's being spawned at a PVP event to "even the odds". If the odds are uneven than the other side needs to get into their guild chat and motivate people to reinforce, or recruit. If the server is rebel dominated for now (or perceived to be. I believe ED stated the balance is actually fairly close )- so be it. Just like planets are Rebel or Imperial controlled servers go back and forth. New players will go IMP BECAUSE OF the dominate side and it will balance out. That's what guilds are for, to motivate their player base and recruit. Otherwise, you have an artificial balance that hurts those who did the hard work on their end.

PVP should be about one player group's prep and strategy vs another player group's prep and strategy. Nothing more and nothing less. Giving rewards to the victor over set rules is fine, but tipping the balance to make it "fair" isn't. If one side gets squashed quickly, so be it. That should motivate the other side enough to be better next time.

Again, it's not a criticism of the mods, but it discourages real PVP in my mind when you get insta Deathblowe'd by a Dark Jedi Master or have your buffs cleared by a CSR because the other side didn't come prepared or won't make their guilds come out to fight.

If a group is doing the deathwatch bunker and the CSR made players overt in the middle of it, that wouldn't be right either.

If we want to have PVE events or social events, that's another thing. Spawning Krayts in Bestine or something would be fun for PVE, and guilds can be competitive in that right as well, seeing who can take the mob down the fastest, or having ED spawn increasingly harder mobs against two full buff groups in a survival mode.

I think a survival mode PVE event would be a really fun way to see who is the best at PVE, as it's hard to compare in terms of efficiency any other way. Spawn the mobs far enough away to prevent aggro issues, but have it in an open forum close enough to compare results.

Social events that are just for fun, and going nuts should be marked as such also.

Anyway, just my thoughts. C:-) O:-)

I'm so sorry for you. It must have been really rough and discouraging to fight a couple of NPCs while outnumbering imperials 3:1. I hope you're able to withstand this dash to your confidence and motivation to chip up and keep in the fight

Is it really that much fun to just steam roll over your enemies because you outnumber them? I think adding the mobs helped the battle last longer and provide more fun for the community.

It's not easy and very time consuming to prepare and execute events. Cheers to Thor for even bothering.
Some of us gave up our Saturday afternoon.

Coordinating and teleporting interested individuals, Gm buffing and maintaining a sense of fairness for all sides is a difficulty.

I would avoid looking the gift horse in the mouth and writing long winded explanations about something you perceive as unfair.

This.

Let's keep it in perspective folks. What's not fair is Ed having to wake up in the middle of the night to reset the server. Let's just be thankful we even have people who dedicate their time to resurrecting this dinosaur of a game for the people who enjoy playing it.

Bottom line...Let all the recent bullshit go, keep the butthurt egos in check , stop worrying what's "fair" and just enjoy the playing the game.

I know when I put some thought into a post, what I really want is a snarky one-off comment. That's what makes discussion thrive. ::)

PVP isn't about fairness. It's about who is the best. Just saying. Eventually people who love PVP will get turned-off. You can take it as an attack on your event, or as positive feedback. Either way. I really don't want to turn this into a "Think of all they do for us!" Thread. I think we all appreciate it. That's established. Trying to turn this into a "OHHH you're bashing the devs for doing an event!" is a pretty dishonest to the point I'm trying to get across, not to mention off topic.

Not only that but I'm offering constructive feedback for other events that would incorporate the same elements.

It's about the nature of the event. Is it PVP or is it PVE?

If imperials only have fun when things are slanted in their favor it's not really PVP. And hey, if it turns into a time when the shoe is on the other foot and imperials are stronger the rebels will have to suck it up. I'm just saying, do we want server wide PVP to be something that is organic and active, or do we want it to be subsidized and very specific. It seems to go against the spirit of what SWG is about.

A priority for event organisers isn't just to run the events - but to make sure that enough people enjoy it for the next one to happen.

Right now - just on player NUMBERS - Imperial players would have to be sadomasochists to turn up to more than 1 event without this kind of intervention.

The price we pay for PVP that isn't a 5v5 arena is that it will ultimately always be unbalanced. It was good to see that the devs here don't just settle for that and that they're trying to be creative and come up with ways to keep the side that are TOTALLY outmatched interested in further events, even though they still lose.

You guys that want PVP to be open season - How many of you have actually put your guild to war with another? That'd give you your PVP whenever you want it scenario.

According to ED at the pvp Event in Naboo about a week and half ago, the balance isn't that far off and I believe he said there are more IMPs. It's just they don't PVP, or they are grinding Jedi.

That isn't the problem or the concern of motivated rebel PVP players. It's up to imperial guilds to motivate, not Godmodes.

The goal for any event is to be fun, that way when the next one rolls around people will want to participate. Thor was a tad outdone by Ed and I interfering by adding mobs. There were a couple of time delays so mobs were thrown in. And yes a 3:1 imbalance is ridiculous, I didn't care for the DJM mobs going down, but Ed decided some time fillers were needed. It takes a lot of work to teleport people from event to event. While we utilize macros and scripts, some things have to be done on the fly manually.

I would prefer for pvp events to be players only. Until there is a somewhat fair balance of players we either don't have events or we add a few npc's. While we appreciate people's opinions we don't have to do events at all. Thor has a lot on his plate, puts a lot of time and love into planning these things. He wants people to have fun. The sheer amount of people that complain during and after kinda will turn us off from wanting to do these events. I would be thankful as you didn't see SOE staff holding events with this frequency or with the rewards that can come with them.

Leave a "Thanks Thor" at the door and walk away. Anything else might get you excluded from upcoming events.

Well, that's really sad to hear. I thought open discussion and constructive feedback was a good thing.

I think respect to the organizers was given in abundance in my post here and other places, but I'll leave it at that.

We do think it's a good thing, when it's constructive. ;)

The point I was getting at was you wouldn't believe the amount of people that complained the other day. I think we got 15-20 public "thank you's" then the other people complained they didn't get loot that day.............

As a matter of fact I say we just don't do events for a while. Maybe give Thor some time to work with us on some balance issues and maybe the pvp will balance itself out. Thanks for the input.

Thanks Thor! Looking forward to more events in the future. Makes my week days a little brighter having cool events like this to look forward too.

He explained the house needed restocking and with the amount of people the likely hood of anyone getting a gift was extremely slim regardless. I just came to kill some imps. Thanks again Thor it was fun setting afire the Imperials and sharing poison with them 8)

I had to work until the last run. but just managed to join in the very last of it. When I participated before the imperials seemed to outnumber rebels, but I still came back because Thor turned it into imaginative hide and seek. Which was thinking on the fly :D and somehow we got a win in because one person on our side was hide and seek champion. These events are fun and I appreciate the time and effort . I also remember one rebel getting a buff that was really amazing. Thanks again.

It would be nice if some events were held after 10pm EST for those who have kids. I see plenty of people on at that time.
