Hi guys,

I played SWG back in the days intensly. Loved it. Left shortly before everthing went down for good. Had several Chars, loved totally the whole crafting system. Unlocked jedi before the village and played it intensly with roleplay and in the right way (well everyone maybe sees the "right way" differnt, but I played it like it was ment, in full hiding, no showing off and as I light jedi I was only on the BH terminals after helping some unlucky adverturers out of a deadly situation by switching on the saber D:).

I had so many awesome moments, nothing could compare to it. Running around at Taris taming my first pig looking like creature. Having differnt theories how to unlock Jedi for ther first 1,5 years was awesome. Permadeath...very good against show off kiddies. My first time building a house on my own or creating a rancor. First time on the BH terminal because I saved a new player getting eaten by lizzards. He was totally happy...he was a fanboy too...well I went to the terminal for that :D. First time I downed a AT with my commando :d..... and so many more. And of course getting to know my wife via SWG (SWGEMU, we played 1,5 years ago and married 1,5 months ago).

To be honest I right now found out about awakening via google. I searched before at youtube and saw that there are more private servers. I only knew SWGEMU and I played it for years now. But there are no jedis so far and it will be wiped some time in the future so the work of 8 characters will be gone again.

May I ask some questions? There is no chat I guess, so I have to do it here. I am not sure if I should swith from SWGEMU to here, I played a lot there.
- Are there many differences between SWGEMU and here?
- ARe you guys connected by coding the game or are there many groups who try to recreate the game on their own?
- Or is the code open for everyone who wants to make a server? Like could I open my own at home for exsample?
- What happens if the next version comes out (suncrusher or so) still no wipe?
- Are serverdowns frequent?
- How is in general the community?

Hmm shall I restart here from zero?

Hi, and Welcome!

I have been here for about two months so I can't answer all your questions, but I can hit a few of them.

Wipes = None
Everything I have been told or found on the forums talks about patching with no wipes and lots of data backups incase something goes very wrong.

Server downtime = I see a reset every morning at about 6am est other than that in the two months I have been here I have not seen it crash or just go down for what ever reason.

Community = Great! I have encountered nothing but nice people always willing to help. One thing that threw me was at first I didn't think many people played here because Mos Eisley was a ghost town...lol I did quickly find out that on this server player cities are where most of the groups form, healing happens, shopping, events...ect Check neutral chat you can always find folks in there.

Sorry I don't know anything about the code end of the game or starting your own server, I'm just glad I found this one!

Hope to see you in-game soon!

Hello and welcome to awakening first off defensorlucis,

I loved reading your backstory always great to see the passionate past players joining us.

I will try and answer some of your questions to the best of my knowledge but the Dev team maybe better answering than myself on the coding side of things.

I have never played the swgemu server, but i have been here for nearly a year and half now and awakening describes itself as pre-cu+, which is everything great about the pre-cu with the added context of NGE equipment to a certain degree.

The dev team does get the emu coding down when it is released and they tend to go through it all and pick and choose what they want to add onto the server that best suits it.

There has and never will be any wipes on awakening ever.

The server resets every 24 hours usually at 6am EST, it is extremely rare that there is server downs, it happens very rarely but that happened alot worse on live. And the problem is usually dealt with asap by the dev team and back up and running brilliantly.

The community is by far the best i have ever seen on a game, and ive played many MMO's, fantastic bunch very helpful and great to play with, ive loved every second ive been here and the server is my home and the best by a long way in my opinion.

Would love to see you join our already great server and add to it.

If there is any other questions yoy may have or if you do decide to come join us give me a message be happy to help you out.

Pleasure speaking to you

Best Regards

Welcome to Awakening Defensor! I'll try to answer some of your questions here, and I'm sure others will chime in with their input.
DefensorLucis wrote:May I ask some questions? There is no chat I guess, so I have to do it here.

There is an in game chat system. It is true that the general chat channel has been removed, but it has been replaced by factional chat channels. When you first enter the galaxy you will automatically be connected to neutral chat. Ask away in there.
DefensorLucis wrote:Are there many differences between SWGEMU and here?

The biggest difference is that Bas is a test server, Awakening is a live play server. There is a "No Wipe" policy here and the staff does a great job of making sure the galaxy and our characters that live in it are backed up frequently.

This is also considered a "Hard Mode" server. Don't go after end-game content solo with an expectation of succeeding. You will most likely want to take friends along.

Jedi is enabled and bounty hunters have been given a few bonuses to help keep them being seen at every starport.
DefensorLucis wrote:ARe you guys connected by coding the game or are there many groups who try to recreate the game on their own? Or is the code open for everyone who wants to make a server? Like could I open my own at home for exsample?
Technically, anybody could start up a server. Running a successful play server isn't quite that simple though.

DefensorLucis wrote:What happens if the next version comes out (suncrusher or so) still no wipe?
NO WIPES!

DefensorLucis wrote:Are serverdowns frequent?
This server is very stable. Reboot is scheduled once every 24 hours. Other than that, unplanned restarts are not frequent.
DefensorLucis wrote:How is in general the community?
The community here is great, I have not seen another like it in any other game I have ever played. Most are welcoming and helpful to newcomers. Log in and give a shout out in chat.

Thank you very much for all your answers. That quite impressed me on the community sided question :D. Yes I loved some of my past stories so much, I even tell it with sparkling eyes to others ha ha ha. If you know what I mean.

I did knot know that there are any others servers than bask and nova :o . I somewhat regret it now, that I played for years on the test servers, well it made fun and so on:D.

Now I found out that there are more servers..... uff and thats my next problem now, I have to chose lol. europe server might have a low ping, rougesomething sounds nice with some other races and stuff.....

3 more questions come into my mind right now. I read that its "harder" here to get to some points or so, does that just mean the server did the opposite what other servers did? like they made 3x xps and here its 0,5 xps ratio, just to make the grind longer?
How is the economy? Empty? Overcrowded? Buffs good or hard to get?
And the other question is about jedi. I love crafting and everything, but as a total fanboy towards jedi, one of my maingoals was always to become jedi back in the days and still it is on any server again of course. Its mentioned here that there is like a random component at creation, what does that mean. random like yes or no, or different ways. Not that the system decides that my character is not force sensitive at all and with that no chance of unlocking ever?

Everybody can unlock just everybody's combination of things to accomplish is different than others. There is 7 steps towards Jedi, it's is a long and hard road to get to Jedi and even harder once you do unlock.
Some players have had to grind every profession and do almost everything in game and others who have unlocked haven't even had to do a quarter of that so it's completely random on what will unlock you. What we say is play the game and you'll do most of the things needed and enjoy the journey also.

The economy is excellent here there is healthy competition in all professions making the market competitive and health for he community. There's a lot of big player cities with well respected vendors and new upcoming vendors looking to compete. In my time here I've seen a lot of ups and downs in the economy and currently it's one of strongest it's been.

The hard mode is increased ham, higher resistances. There is no increased xp here unless for special events which you will see maybe 3-4 times a year going off last year. Which personally I prefer I've always enjoyed earning what I get and this is the place for that.

Any other questions?

Best regards

I think most of your questions have been answered quite thoroughly. I was a day 2 live player until shortly after pre-CU. I played on a few other EMU servers, including basilisk, and will never go back to either of them. If you need any help, please feel free to contact anyone from The Journeymen <TJM>. We are always glad to assist.

Thanks again. Sounds good. And different ways to jedi is fine too, I wanted just to be sure that its not possible to "close the door" right at character creation. My unlocking back in the days was after 30 or 31 proffessions mastered :D.

I just tried to motivate my wife to start with me, but she was not happing that I even mentioned it, because of the time consuming game.

Help well, with what do we start new? Is there any vihicle or first days running?

I know the wife feeling buddy, been trying to get mine to play for ages I get the death stare lol.

Everyone starts with a x-31 land speeder, you can pick up a swoop for bout 12-15k, a lot of people will just give you one, it pains me to see people in x-31.

Look forward to seeing you in game have fun :).

P.s: there is awakening teamspeak also feel free to come on and say hello any time open door policy.

well first thing we did was playing swgemu basilisk with teamspeak together when we started to learn us more and get friends before we started a relationship. usually she played too, but not so much anymore. sadly. when I start to play to extreme now (what I usually do, esp. in my holidays right now)...she gets angry now. I hoped that we can play it together a bit again....well maybe later.

I created one. Scout....and learned novice brawler, marksman, medic, crafter right away. well no pistols, no survey tools and so on, but hey new start :D. I guess I go TK than first. NPC cities are dead you said, right? so no buffs I guess for me right now.

Player cities are place to go for buffs there's a lot on most planets and nearly all of them have full time docs and ents. Tusken bane on tatooine, new destiny and sirens calling on corellia, diarmid, Avalon prime, serenity on naboo just to name a few are very dependable.
A lot of the guys will give free buffs to new players to get them helped out and going, we tend to say her buffs drop the doc or ent an email explaining your new and will pay back on future or just a freebie a lot of the guys are just happy to help out.

Welcome to the server!

Everyone has seemed to answer your questions so I will just add a few thing that I have picked up on since my time here. I also played in live for many years and on Bas for many server wipes. Server wipes ruined it for me and the fact that Awakening will never wipe again is the only reason I play here. Since I have been here though I have found that Awakening's version of the game is harder and I rather enjoy it. Sure you can grind and craft with ease but the NPC's on some of the more difficult planets are harder to kill. Better resist, more HAM than I remember, as a matter of fact I got my ass handed to me by some Janta's just last night. I thought that as an almost master rifleman/CM I could take on a full nest of Janta's and pull in 25k credit reward. Instead I was dizzy/KD and beat to death and most likely eaten by them. I have even seen some NPC's with lightsaber resistance on them, which I don't remember that either. Being a Jedi here is more difficult to obtain and level but the reward is great I hear. I read a story on the forums just the other day from a Jedi that had 6 bounty hunters come for him, he lost but those 6 BH's worked their asses off for that bounty. Seems to me the reward is pretty awesome because back in the old days I slayed many jedi on the battle field.

I have never unlocked a Jedi but I look forward to it here, this community has been the most helpful I have ever encountered. No one has to help me along way but even without asking many have come to my aid just from paying attention to what is said in chat or in spatial. NPC's are ghost towns but many player cities are full and lively and more people arrive everyday. My only regret is that I did not start playing 1 year ago when the rest of my guildmates started.

I look forward to seeing you in game and if you need anything at all just ask.
