Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
About SWG & Awakening
What is Star Wars Galaxies?
Star Wars Galaxies was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the Star Wars universe. Developed by Sony Online Entertainment (now known as Daybreak Game Company LLC) and published by LucasArts (now known as Lucasfilm Games LLC), it launched on June 26, 2003 and officially shut down on December 15, 2011, following multiple expansions and updates.
What is Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU and why bring it back?
Pre-CU refers to the state of the game prior to the Combat Upgrade (CU) introduced in April 2005. Many players consider this era the most authentic and enjoyable version of SWG. At Awakening, we aim to faithfully restore that Pre-CU experience for the community whilst adding in some additional QoL changes and extra content/systems that don't change the core of Pre-CU SWG.
Is running a Star Wars Galaxies server legal?
Yes. Awakening runs on custom server code originally developed by the SWGEmu project and extended by our development team to fit our vision. No original Daybreak Game Company LLC (formerly Sony Online Entertainment) code is used. Our server code is released under the GNU AGPL. All of our open-source repositories are listed on our GitHub Organisation. We also require players to legally possess an original copy of the SWG game client in order to connect to our game server(s).

Where can I talk to the community?
Most of our community activity happens on our Discord server, which is the best place to ask questions, get help, meet other players, and stay up to date with announcements.
While we do have forums, they're used less frequently by the community and are mainly used for formal communications by the staff team and server notices. That said, they’re still open for members to post, browse past discussions, or search for information.
You can also chat in-game using the General chat channel to connect with players online.
